The Egyptian Butane Gas Delivery and Distribution Company (Butagasco) distributed approximately 96 million liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders during fiscal year (FY) 2025, up from 94.5 million in 2024, bolstering the stability of the domestic market. Mahmoud Saleh, the company’s Chairman, reported the figures during the General Assembly convened via videoconference to approve the year’s financial results.
Saleh noted that Butagasco’s transport fleet handled 37.5% of the total volumes, while home delivery services accounted for 21.67 million cylinders, yielding EGP 151 million in revenue. Regarding production infrastructure, the Sohag plant recorded a daily output of 72,000 domestic and 2,000 commercial cylinders.
In Luxor, the Tod plant operates at a capacity of 25,000 domestic and 1,400 commercial units to secure supply across Aswan, Luxor, and southern Qena. Notably, the Asyut valve-cap factory achieved self-sufficiency for both Butagasco and Petrogas, with production surging to 164 million units in 2025, compared to 55 million in 2024.
The meeting was attended by Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, who emphasized the necessity of tightening oversight on the LPG distribution chain to ensure subsidies reach eligible citizens. Badawi stressed that modernizing the system and expanding digital tracking tools are essential to eliminate unregulated market practices. He further underscored that occupational health and safety (OHS) is an investment in human capital rather than a cost, ensuring operational sustainability.
Looking ahead, Butagasco is set to establish new distribution centers in emerging urban areas, including Capital Gardens City. The company is also planning to replace existing warehouses with strategic alternative sites and is studying the launch of a new facility for plastic and detergent packaging in partnership with other petroleum sector entities.
Butagasco is a leading petroleum sector company and a subsidiary of the Egyptian Gas Liquefaction Company (Petrogas), which holds a 52% majority stake. Operating under the umbrella of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR), Butagasco specializes in the distribution and marketing of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders across the Republic.
