Three bombs blew up an electricity pylon near Aswan in Upper Egypt on Monday, cutting power to 14 villages, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

The high voltage 220-kV pylon is located on a highway west of Aswan.

Earlier on Monday, eight explosive devices took down three high voltage electricity pylons in Beheira governorate.

Anti-government militants have targeted security forces as well as economic infrastructure, including electricity pylons, since July 2013 when Islamist president Mohamed Morsi was ousted from power.

In April, a series of bombings on electricity pylons supplying the Egyptian Media Production City (EMPC) led to a power cut that forced several private TV channels off air.
