Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, called for further development of Egypt’s refineries, transportation networks and storage capacity to strengthen energy security and Egypt’s position as a regional petroleum products trading hub.

Badawi made the remarks during the general assemblies of Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC) and Petroleum Pipelines Company to approve their FY 2025/26 results. Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid attended via video conference.

Petroleum Pipelines Company Chairman Haggag Rabie Kilany said the company’s 6,300-kilometer pipeline network transported more than 8.2 billion ton-kilometers during the year. It also operates 155 storage tanks with total capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters.

The company is expanding its Sokhna station to raise storage capacity from 300,000 to 460,000 cubic meters. Badawi also directed the company to prepare a five-year plan to develop its crude and petroleum products transportation capacity.

Meanwhile, ASORC Chairman Issa Mohamed Abdel-Aal said the refinery processed 3.314 million tons of crude and produced petroleum products worth about $3 billion. High-value products accounted for around 57% of total refined output. The company plans to raise annual refining capacity from 4.5 million to 9.5 million tons through its third distillation unit project.

The latest results follow Badawi’s visit to ASORC in August, when he highlighted Egypt’s existing infrastructure and facilities as key to strengthening its position as a regional energy hub. He also called for closer coordination among petroleum companies and their employees to support higher production.
