Algerian, British Ministers Discuss Energy Investment

Algeria’s Energy Minister, Salah Khebri, and British Special Representative, Lord Richard Risby, held a bilateral meeting to discuss greater energy cooperation between Algiers and London, All Africa reports.

Minister Khebri called for British companies to explore opportunities in Algeria in the fields of hydrocarbons (upstream and downstream), renewable energy, training, research and development, and manufacturing of industrial equipment.

Lord Risby lauded the “extraordinary and historic” cooperative relations with Algeria in the energy sector and spoke of “the significant investment opportunities offered to British companies in Algeria in the field of hydrocarbons and renewable energy.”

The meeting comes as Algeria hopes to increase investment interest in its energy fields. Reuters reported earlier in the month that Algeria’s energy export volumes fell by 2.8% in the first nine months of 2015, amid increased consumption and decreasing output. The country has struggled in attracting international investors in recent years.
