Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (Admoc) has recommended the use of the Vapour Phase Corrosion Inhibitor (VpCI) for corrosion management of caisson legs, based on its recent study outcomes, reported Trade Arabia.
The Vapour Phase Corrosion Inhibitor (VpCI) was used as an alternative environmentally friendly method of protecting caisson legs in a pilot research project launched in 2009 following a gas explosion that had occurred around an offshore platform caisson leg.
According to Oil and Gas Technology, VpCI are different from traditional contact corrosion inhibitors, because they enjoy a moderately high vapor pressure that allows them to function in the vapor phase without applying VpCI directly to the metal surface.
Admoc is a major producer of offshore oil and gas from the Abu Dhabi areas, and operates multiple barge-type offshore platforms constructed on caisson legs.
