EGPC Assesses Results of Using Hydrogen Fuel instead of Natural Gas at ANRPC

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) held a workshop to review the actual results of the trial run for a project at the Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemicals Company (ANRPC). This project involved changing the main boiler's fuel system. During the trial, the boiler was operated using hydrogen surplus instead of natural gas. Approximately 12,000 tons of hydrogen-rich gases were utilized as a substitute for 20,000 tons of natural gas. This pioneering initiative in the petroleum sector yielded significant economic savings and environmental benefits.

Egypt Advances Industrial Decarbonization with Mitsubishi Power’s Hydrogen Conversion Technology

Mitsubishi Power, the energy solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has completed a hydrogen fuel conversion project at the refinery of the Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemical Company (ANRPC). The project marks the first industrial use of hydrogen as boiler fuel in Egypt and the wider MENA region.
The project, whose contract was unveiled in 2022, contributes to the utilization of 14,000 tons per year (tpa) of hydrogen-rich gases available in the production units, reducing natural gas consumption by about 24,000 tons as well as the reduction of carbon emissions by about 65,000 tpa.

Jordan received on Friday the Energos Force floating, storage, and regasification unit (FSRU) at Aqaba port. The unit is set to commence operations next Tuesday, facilitating the gasification of liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments, according to Jordan news agency.
Egypt and Jordan signed a cooperation agreement in 2024 that entails leveraging Egypt’s floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) to supply Jordan with natural gas and secure its local market demands. Herein, Jordan plans to secure up to 350 million cubic feet of gas daily from the Energos Force unit till the end of 2026.
