Egypt, ACWA Power Advance Wind and Solar Projects to Boost Grid Stability

Mahmoud Esmat, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, met with Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power  Country Development Director, Hassan Amin, to discuss means of enhancing cooperation and partnership in the fields of renewable energy and supporting the unified grid. The meeting comes as part of the national plan to add new solar and wind generation capacities to achieve energy security and a balanced mix. The plan also expands battery storage technologies to secure the grid and ensure a stable electricity supply

Esmat and Amin reviewed progress on Acwa Power's 1.1-gigawatt (GW) Zafarana wind power project, with the first phase of 550 megawatts (MW) scheduled to enter commercial operation by the end of this year, according to a statement by the Cabinet. Also, they discussed the company's future large-scale wind project south of Hurghada, with a total capacity exceeding 1.5 gigawatts (GW), that is currently in the phase of final feasibility studies and technical assessments before construction begins.

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, participated in a high-level roundtable meeting of mining ministers on the sidelines of the 5th edition of the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh. The roundtable was chaired by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Al-Khorayef, and included around 70 senior officials from global organizations concerned with mining, investment, and development.

Abdelatty, Scatec CEO Discuss Green Hydrogen and Africa Cooperation

Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates met Tuesday with Terje Pilskog, CEO of Norwegian firm Scatec to strengthen economic cooperation between Egypt and Norway in renewables. Abdelatty stressed on boosting bilateral economic cooperation, building on the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Norway in December 2024.

Egypt Launches Africa’s Largest Solar-Battery Project in Qena

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has inaugurated the first phase of the Obelisk Solar Power Generation Project Nagaa Hammadi, Qena Governorate. The phase has a capacity of 500 megawatts (MW), in addition to 200 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery energy storage systems (BESS). It is developed and constructed by Norway’s Scatec, with a total planned solar capacity of 1,000 MW.

Madbouly Opens $116 Mn Renewable Energy Complex in Sokhna

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has inaugurated a Chinese technology industrial complex dedicated to manufacturing components for renewable energy projects within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), according to a statement by the Cabinet.

Located inside the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA)  in Sokhna, the $116 million complex marks a strategic milestone in Egypt’s efforts to become a regional hub for green economy industries, aligning with Egypt's Vision 2030. 

Egypt Exports LNG Shipment to Canada

Egypt has exported 150,000 liquefied natural gas (LNG) from IDKU plant and head to Canada via French TotalEnergies’ LNG Endeavour vessel, marked as the first shipment of 2026.
