Egypt’s Women in Energy Network, a part of the Egypt Oil and Gas (EOG) Committee, has held an empowering mentoring event under the theme “Potential Leaders: Taking the Ownership of Leadership” .
The event, hosted by Petrojet Company, started with a welcoming opening speech delivered by Eleanor Rowley, Capricorn Energy Managing Director. During her speech, Rowley highlighted the Women in Energy Network’s mission and role in supporting the energy sector’s ladies. “Our mission statement is to create a vibrant network that inspires and supports women from fresh graduates to senior leaders on their career journeys in energy,” Rowley noted.
Moreover, Rowley explained that through mentoring events, the Women in Energy Netwok “tries to help ladies at all stages of their career reach their goals. We are happy today to have a big mix of ladies from government, EGPC [the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation], industry, JVs, and international companies’ ladies.”
Following her speech, Rowley gave the floor to Dalia El Gabry, Vice President and Country Chair of Shell Egypt, who delivered a powerful speech urging all women in the sector to take the lead in their professional life as self-confidence is the first step for any woman to achieve her career goals.
El Gabry further told attendees to take the opportunity of the event and the mentors to learn all they can. “Today presents a valuable opportunity for us to pause, reflect, and support one another. This network has been, and will continue to be, a platform where we unite and give our best to stand together.”
Additionally, El Gabry highlighted the importance of teamwork, stating “I have found that business success comes through having teams that are empowered, included, and motivated. It is a skill to be able to bring together your team and to get the best out of every member.”
The event featured 11 mentoring topics led by distinguished mentors. Nermeen El Nawawi, Marketing Manager, Middle East and Africa, Polyethylene Marketing at ExxonMobil Egypt, mentored the topic on diverse teams, featuring how to work with different cultures and personality types and get the most out of everyone. Meanwhile, Rowley mentored the discussion topic of putting your job before your career, which discussed career paths and vision/ Additionally, Nihal AbdelKarim, Development Engineering & Decarbonization Manager at Eni Egypt/ IEOC mentored the discussion on unconscious bias. Iman Wafy, CEO assistant for Information Technology & Telecommunication at EGPC, mentored the self-awareness and life planning topic.
The distinguished mentors also included Engy ElBarkouki, Managing Director at SOFTI; Heidi Mamdouh, Founder, Executive Coach and Strategic HRM Consultant at Grit LLC; Dalia Shaaban, HR Consultant at Shell; Omneya Waheed Abdellatif, Managing Counsel & Head of Legal at Shell; Nehal Khalil, Media Manager at Petrojet; Heba Abdel-Kader, EGPC’s Deputy CEO for Foreign Trade, and Sally Kenawy, Integrated Gas & Upstream Planning Manager at Shell.
