The Moroccan Minister of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development, Abdelaziz Rebbah, has announced that the recently discovered natural gas in Tendrara is anticipated to cover up to 30% of Morocco’s natural gas needs, as reported by The North Africa Post.
The minister also mentioned that there are 13 companies exploring in Morocco including the Western region north of Rabat.
Despite recent discoveries, Morocco remains an energy importer because of the lack of its oil and gas resources, so the country has been planning to produce 52% of its energy from renewable resources.
Combing natural gas explorations and renewable energy, this would help Morocco reduce its 82 billion Dirham energy imports and redress the trade deficit.
