TAQA Arabia, through its subsidiary Rosetta Energy Solutions, Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) and Africa50,a pan‑African infrastructure investment platform, have signed an agreement to develop a small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Tanzania, according to Reuters.

The partners plan to invest in, develop and operate the facility to supply Tanzania’s industrial, residential and transport sectors, as well as customers outside the existing gas pipeline network with gas.

TPDC will supply gas to the facility, which will liquefy locally produced natural gas to be transported by dedicated vehicles, helping expand access to domestic gas resources and reduce reliance on higher-cost, more carbon-intensive fuels. The agreement marks a key step toward reaching the final investment decision (FID), with commercial operations targeted for 2027.

Pakinam Kafafi, CEO of TAQA Arabia, said, “This project will turn Tanzania’s abundant gas resources into reliable energy for industry, communities and transport, strengthening energy security and accelerating industrialisation.”

This is not TAQA Arabia’s first move in Tanzania. In September 2025, TAQA Arabia’s board reviewed potential investments in LNG projects in Tanzania alongside developments at the Zafarana solar energy project in Egypt.
