Syria made an agreement with Azerbaijan to buy 1 to 1.5 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas annually through Turkey.
That came during a meeting between Syrian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Sufian Al Allao, and Azerbaijan Minister of Industry and Energy, Natiq Aliyev.
They also discussed the potentials of founding a joint company between the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).
“Azerbaijani gas will be used domestically and the extra amount will be exported to Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Greece and Italy through the Arab gas pipeline. It will also contribute to boosting relations through participation of Azerbaijani investors in joint projects with Syria,” said Al Allao.
Minister Aliyev said that his country is willing to provide Syria with the amount of gas agreed upon and to exchange expertise in the fields of oil and energy.
