Brazilian oil services company OSX has received the very large crude carrier Suhail Star, the second of the two VLCC sister-vessels it agreed to buy from Saudi Aramco subsidiary Vela International Marine as part of a $54 million deal.

The Suhail Star arrived in Kalba, United Arab Emirates, a few days ahead of schedule.
The first vessel, Gemini Star, was delivered on 13 January.

OSX intends to convert the VLCC hulls into floating production, storage and offloading vessels, which are to be chartered by sister company OGX.

The Gemini Star and Suhail Star will be renamed OSX-3 and OSX-4.

The company is due to receive in a few months the OSX-1 FPSO, currently undergoing customisation in Singapore, and is in the process of contracting the OSX-2 FPSO, with floater specialist SBM Offshore tipped to be in the driver’s seat to secure the contract.
