President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi to discuss efforts to meet the country’s petroleum needs and review the latest oil and gas discoveries made between July 2024 and May 2025.
The meeting addressed the sector plan for the upcoming summer season, as well as measures taken to avoid blackouts during the hot summer months.
In the past two years, Egypt experienced power cuts due to rising energy demand and supply shortages. To manage this issue, the government implemented scheduled power cuts to offset the power load in addition to holding bids for imported oil cargoes to bridge the deficit between supply and demand.
President Sisi has emphasized the importance of expanding domestic oil and gas production to meet local consumption needs and reduce reliance on imports. He has directed officials to accelerate the development of newly discovered wells in addition to intensifying research and exploration activities, providing incentives and overcoming any obstacles facing investors in Egypt’s oil, gas and mining sectors.
Moreover, Sisi also directed to intensify research and exploration efforts, aiming to boost local oil and gas output while providing incentives to fast-track field development and production operations.
The meeting reviewed necessary steps to enhance regional cooperation in the coming period, as well as intensifying efforts to ensure timely payments of dues to global energy firms operating in Egypt.
The meeting also addressed reasons behind the complaints of contaminated gasoline with Minister Badawi confirming that it had been immediately resolved and that legal and administrative measures are underway against those responsible.
The most recent developments in the mining sector was also discussed with focusing on amendments to the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) Law to exploit mineral resources and upgrade the authority’s organizational structure in order to attract international mining companies.
