The Norwegian solar developer, Scatec Solar, has begun ground activities at two sites in Egypt, Benban and Zafarana, to develop 250 MW of solar PV capacity, reports PV Magazine.
The project comes part of the Egyptian government’s Renewable Energy program. In an aim to produce 20% of its energy from renewable resources by 2020.
According to Zawya, the company plans to invest more than $600m in Egypt’s solar energy program over next two years.
The company is currently undergoing geotechnical studies, and Environment-Social Impact Assessments, as well as the initial installation of two weather stations to measure solar irradiation.
