Dr. Yeheya El-Gamal, the newly appointed Vice Prime Minister in the interim government led by Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq announced yesterday that ministerial changes will be announced soon, including the dismissal of Eng. Sameh Fahmy, the Minister of Petroleum.

In his last day in the office, Fahmy met with Eng. Abdallah Ghorab, Chairman of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), Eng. Mahmoud Latif, Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), and Yasser El-Maghraby, Chairman of Petrosport.

The meeting was followed by Fahmy convening another meeting with the Ministry’s technical office and the officials of data and technology in the ministry.

There was no official statement about the names suggested to fill in this position. Yet, speculations included the names of Eng. Ibrahim Saleh, former head of the EGPC, and Eng. Ahmed

Abdel Fatah El-Touny to be Fahmy’s successor in the Ministry of Petroleum.
Fahmy will then end his 12 years in the office as the Minister of Petroleum.

Last week, strong news was spread that Fahmy resigned, who declined it in an interview with the state-run Al-Ahram Newspaper.
