Russia Prepares to Prolong Diesel Export Limits Into 2027

Russia is preparing to extend restrictions on diesel exports by three months until the end of January 2027, with exemptions for certain international shipments, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on October 30, according the Russian state news agency TASS.

The government is drafting a decree to extend the ban, as the current restriction on diesel, marine fuel and gas oil exports by direct producers is due to expire on October 31, Novak added.

Russia has begun allowing limited diesel exports under specific exemptions. Novak said three tankers carrying Russian diesel had already been dispatched to the US, while a fourth was scheduled to depart on October 29.

Russian companies were permitted to export 500,000 tons of diesel in October under arrangements to supply the US and other markets.

Russia introduced fuel export restrictions to stabilize its domestic market amid supply pressures and heightened seasonal demand.

The government’s July 2026 decree extended restrictions on gasoline, diesel, marine fuel and gas oil exports through January 31, 2027, while providing exemptions for certain intergovernmental and other approved shipments.
