Russia has extended its ban on diesel exports until September 30 as the country seeks to stabilize its domestic fuel market, Reuters reported, citing the Russian government.

The extension also applies to exports of marine fuel and gas oils shipped by Russian producers, according to a government statement.

The measures come as domestic fuel shortages persist, with several Russian refineries remaining offline following repeated Ukrainian drone attacks. Three sources previously told Reuters that the export restrictions were expected to be extended amid ongoing supply constraints.

Russia initially introduced the diesel export ban from July 8 to July 31 as part of a broader package of measures aimed at supporting the domestic fuel market. The restrictions on fuel producers were subsequently extended through August 31.

Russia has also prohibited diesel exports by non-producers and imposed a ban on motor gasoline exports until January 31, 2027, while jet fuel exports are restricted through the end of November 2026.

Russia is typically the world’s second-largest diesel exporter after the US. However, diesel exports had already declined before the latest restrictions amid domestic shortages linked to disruptions caused by Ukrainian drone strikes.
