Petroleum Safety and Environmental Services Company (PETROSAFE) announced that it has completed the Assiut oil spill clean-up, reported Amwal Al Ghad. A gasoil (Mazzot) spill in the Nile from a power plant in Assiut occured last Friday. The leak was 15 metres long, 3 metres wide, and 2 to 5 cm in depth. According to Al Masry Al Youm the governorates of Minya, Beni Sweif, Giza and Cairo were warned to take precautionary measures and make sure that the drinking water is not affected by the spill
Petrosafe has sent a fighting-pollution team to start survey processes. The Cabinet has also formed a committee of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, water bodies, police and the Holding Company for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage to follow up the situation.
Daily News Egypt has also reported the closing of 10 water stations as a result of the oil leak,
