Nigeria, Spain to Boost Energy Cooperation

Nigeria and Spain have agreed to form a bilateral association in oil and gas industry, Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru, announced. NNPC would cooperate closely with the Spanish National Oil Company REPSOL to develop the technical capacities of Nigeria’s refineries in line with the NNPC transformation plan, News Ghana reported.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, the NNPC seeks to increase safer energy operation in the country by promoting LPG consumption.
In addition, the NNPC is developing the Trans Sahara Gas Pipeline Project.

Spain currently purchases about $5.10b worth of oil and gas from Nigeria annually.
In early 2015, Spain represented 9% of the total energy export from the country.
