MoP Connects 1.2 Million Households to Natural Gas Grid in 2021/2022

Despite the repercussions of the Coronavirus and the current Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its direct impact on the global economy, and within the framework of the state’s plan to expand the use of natural gas, the natural gas delivery program succeeded during the year 2021/2022 to connect 1.2 million housing units to the natural gas grid.

Tarek El-Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, indicated that natural gas has been delivered to about 13.5 million housing units since the start of the activity until the end of June 2022, which saves 243 million butane cylinders annually.

The year 2021/2022 witnessed the delivery of natural gas to more than 80 new areas that natural gas entered for the first time (outside the villages of the Haya Karima Initiative). With regard to the “Haya Karima” initiative, El-Molla explained that work is underway in 420 villages of the initiative, of which 118 villages have been connected with natural gas.

About 1.3 million prepaid meters have been installed since the start of using these meters until the end of June.
