The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources hosted a safety stand-down event on November 28 to highlight the importance of health, safety, and environment (HSE) standards in the oil and gas industry, Egypt Oil & Gas reports.

In a pre-shot video, Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, personally emphasized the message.

“Safety is one of the most important responsibilities that should be embodied in the strategy and work programs of our organizations,” El Molla said, adding that “we [the ministry] work upon enforcing a balanced strategy dealing with industry risks, including planning and taking proactive measures, training and qualifying employees, provision of personal protective equipment to work safely, and readiness to manage emergencies.”

El Molla invited the more than 130 companies participating in the event to “maintain the highest performance of safety and security in all our operations, and pay intensive attention to operational conditions… making our ultimate goal zero injuries or losses.”
