Madbouly Reviews Latest Efforts to Secure Energy Needs for Local Market Next Summer

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly followed up on the efforts to secure energy needs for the coming summer and improve the efficiency of electricity consumption.

This came through holding a meeting with the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat and the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi in the presence of the First Assistant Minister of Finance for Economic Affairs Sherine El-Sharkawy.

At the beginning of the meeting, Madbouly highlighted the government’s interest in following up on the projects implemented by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, to add more new and renewable energy projects to the national electricity grid, in a way that meets the energy needs of Egypt.

He also noted the importance of following up on the steps to implement the electrical interconnection project currently being implemented with Saudi Arabia, within the framework of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in all fields, most notably the energy sector.

Madbouly explained that these efforts made by the government come in light of the keenness to be prepared to face any additional expected burdens on the national electricity grid during the coming summer.

For his part, Esmat presented his ministry’s efforts to follow up on the phases of the electrical interconnection project with Saudi Arabia, as well as the existing coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) to provide the necessary fuel to operate power plants, in parallel with plans to expand the use of clean energy.

Moreover, he gave a presentation on opportunities to improve the efficiency of electric energy and its pillars.

In turn, Badawi addressed the ministry’s efforts to increase natural gas production to meet the fuel needs of power stations, in addition to the steps to provide liquefied gas (LNG) to meet the country’s needs of natural gas for various uses during the coming summer.

He emphasized effective coordination with the Ministry of Electricity with the aim of raising the efficiency of using power stations to the maximum possible capacity.
