Libya Shuts Down Al-Sharara Field Amid Wave of Oilfield Closures

The Libyan National Oil and Gas Company (NOC) announced the force majeure on the Al-Sharara oil field.

The field was forced to close by a group of individuals who put pressure on workers in the Al-Sharara oilfield and coerced them to gradually shut down production.

NOC said that this made it impossible for the company to implement its contractual obligations.

This came as part of a continuous wave of closures that took place in Libya due to ongoing strife between the country’s political factions.

Libyan Oil and Gas Ministry disclosed the force majeure on some of its fields during the past two days after individuals who work on-site were forced to stop their work and halt production.

The ministry elaborated that these closures would thrust the state’s oil production into a downward spiral and thus affecting their commitments toward deliveries.

It added also this situation will lead to severe financial loss for all Libyans.
