Kuwait-based Equate Petrochemical company has won four Gulf-level Excellence Awards in recognition of its pioneering role in health, safety and Environment (HSE) from the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) – Kuwait Chapter.

The honours included the ‘HSE Excellence Gold Award in Manufacturing’, ‘HSE Management Initiative Excellence Award’, ‘Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Award’ and ‘Excellence in Environment Award.’

Tareq Al-Kandari, senior executive for business development, said: “HSE is an absolute priority for Equate as part of its strategic objectives at all levels.

“Preserving the environment along with the safety and wellbeing of our human resources, the population of Kuwait and the country as a whole are key elements of our efforts to ensure overall sustainability in Kuwait and beyond. Our overall collaboration with ASSE and other relevant bodies is truly an embodiment of our slogan ‘Partners in Success’.”

Mohammad Al-Shamary, Equate Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) leader, said: “As part of our sustainability efforts throughout the years, Equate has launched several initiatives addressing preserving the environment, ensuring occupational safety, maintaining health, safeguarding industrial operations, and creating community awareness about several issues.”

Equate’s HSE initiatives include Kuwait’s first and only seawater cooling towers, Kuwait’s first CO2 recovery project, as well as the Middle East’s first plant water recycle project.

In addition, it is the first Kuwaiti organisation to receive the certification and accreditation of Responsible Care (RC), which is an international voluntary initiative of the global chemical industry to safely handle products throughout all phases.
