Jordan Gas Deliveries to Egypt Disrupted by Weather

Jordan’s National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) has informed EGAS that it cannot meet its agreed upon delivery of gas to Egypt from its floating, storage, regasification unit (FSRU), Reuters reports.

Jordan’s FSRU was taken offline on December 5th after safety concerns due to adverse weather. The unit was returned to full capacity on December 17th.

Jordan has few energy resources of its own and has, until recently, relied on Egyptian gas shipments for much of its energy needs. However, instability in the Sinai combined with increased demand and reduced supply in the Egyptian market have reversed the flow of energy – Jordan now processes energy for shipment to Egypt and receives its energy from its other neighbors. In November, oil ministers from Egypt, Jordan and Iraq signed an MOU to export Iraqi oil and gas to Egypt and Jordan, Egypt Oil and Gas reported.
