Japanese Companies Study to Produce E-Methane Gas in U.S, Liquify at Cameron LNG Plant

The Four Japanese Companies Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas  Toho Gas and Mitsubishi Corporation have entered into an agreement to conduct a detailed joint feasibility study on a project to produce synthetic methane (e-methane) in Texas or Louisiana, liquefy it at the Cameron LNG facility, and transport it to Japan by other infrastructures including LNG ships and receiving terminals in Japan, according to a statement issued by Mitsubishi Corporation.

The company said that the companies targets to produce e-methane of 130,000 tons per year1 to start in 2030.

This project comes in line with the Japanese government’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050, 

Additionally, the four companies are conducting other feasibility studies to produce e-methane in other areas outside Japan as part of its efforts to enhance energy security.
