Iraq, Iran to Hold Talks on Gas Pipeline Deal

Baghdad and Tehran agreed to hold talks about a gas pipeline deal between the two countries to execute 25mcm of gas shipment to Iraq, NRT reported. A branch of the pipeline will deliver gas to Basra, and another to Baghdad. The project is to have a total capacity of up to 40mcm and it is estimated to be completed within two years.

The agreement was reached during the visit of Iraqi Oil Minister, Adil Abd Al-Mahdi, to Tehran. Al-Mahdi had come to Iran to meet with senior Iranian officials and to further discuss the price of oil, OPEC developments, and the country’s share of the oil market, according to the Mehr News Agency.

The plan for developing the pipeline had been reached already in September 2015, however, it was postponed for security reasons over Islamic State’s attacks in Iraq.
