Iraq has recorded an increase in national gas investment, exceeding 1,916 million standard cubic feet (mscf/d) per day.
This surge aligns with efforts to enhance energy efficiency, reduce gas flaring, and convert gas into valuable energy sources for power stations and various industries.
“The Ministry is keen to accelerate the implementation of gas investment projects, stop burning it, and work to transform it into useful energy that supplies electrical power stations and all industries related to it, in line with the government program and the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani and the Minister of Oil,” said Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Gas Affairs, Izzat Saber.
Notably, the gas investment sector is experiencing notable growth, with associated gas utilization surpassing 61% of total gas production, amounting to 3,120 mscf. The utilization of dry gas for electricity generation and industrial purposes stands at 1,450 cubic feet daily, while the national production of liquid gas has reached 6,675 tons per day.
Saber expects increase in national gas production this year, particularly driven by the completion of several promising projects in southern Iraq.
