Egypt Oil & Gas learned that GUPCO  launched a new offshore platform, to replace the original Hilal platform that was destroyed in 1994 due to the collision of a cargo ship. Production was then discontinued for industrial safety and environmental protection considerations.

GUPCO also began drilling two new wells, in March and June 2015, to be placed on production at a rate of 1,600 b/d of oil. Two other wells are also being drilled with a total expected production of 3,000 b/d of oil.
