The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has been named the GCC’s best-performing industrial organisation.
The honour came during the eighth annual Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Awards 2014 presentation, which was attended by GPIC president Dr Abdulrahman Jawahery, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.
During the event, at the Madinat Jumeirah Arena in Dubai, Dr Jawahery also picked up the award for GPIC having excelled in manufacturing.
The awards council spoke of GPIC’s achievements and praised the approach of the company’s board of directors, headed by its chairman, Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa who, it said, gives great attention to development of operations and human resources.
The council also appreciated the keen desire of Dr Jawahery to implement the strategies set by the board and noted the hard work and dedication of employees, which had resulted in GPIC’s growth. It said the company’s workforce is characterised by professionalism, ambition and hard work, which had made the company known internationally.
Dr Jawahery thanked Shaikh Isa and the board of directors for their support as well as the executive management and the employees for their hard work and dedication, leading to achievements at all levels.
He said GPIC would continue to adopt the best strategies and work to ensure the commitment of its staff in developing their knowledge, skills and abilities and to prepare them to meet the requirements of their jobs and develop technical and mental skills to meet the future needs of the company.
The awards ceremony was held under the patronage of UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and organised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The high profile event was attended by Deputy Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Civil Aviation Department president, Emirates Group chairman and CEO and Dubai World chairman Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, ministers, heads of government departments, dignitaries, board members of Dubai chamber, representatives of business councils and groups, businessmen and members of the media.
The winners, coming from a cross-section of business establishments, were honoured for their exceptional performance in fostering growth and innovation and a culture of excellence in the region.
GPIC, in recent years, has seen a rise in production, which has not only resulted in several achievements on production, employment and exports, but also in the field of maintenance and safety, making the company an example of a clean and successful industry in the region.
This has been possible due to an emphasis on safety, a concern for the environment and commitment to development of human resources.
The company also recently set a record for having worked continuously for 18.7 million work hours without a lost time accident.
He said there is great emphasis on the development of Bahraini human resources by providing them access to specialised courses, training workshops and other events at home and abroad.
