Egypt’s New & Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) will receive offers from 11 international companies for the $281m Gabal Al Zeit wind farm at the end of May, according to Al Mal.
Vestas, Axion, and Siemens are among the companies expected to compete for the 250 MW project. Meanwhile, the global institutions financing the project include the French Development Agency, Germany’s KfW, and the European Investment Bank.
The project will be implemented within three years, with a guarantee period up to three years. It is planned to establish a 220KV transformer plant with a 120m turbine length at maximum.
Moreover, the necessary procedures for implementing the project are being carried out and the feasibility study of the project is already complete .It is expected to start implementing the project by the next year.
Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC)’s Chairman, Gamal Abdel Raheem, said that the reason behind the delay of inking the contract is the negotiations about the price of purchasing energy produced from the wind station. It is expected to set the price of energy purchasing from the project at $.4 per 1 KW, which is the same price paid for energy produced from Toyota – Orascom wind project.
