Germany has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the country’s top power producer RWE and Dutch network operator Gasunie to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the port town of Brunsbuettel, Reuters reported in reference to an Economy Ministry announcement.
RWE and Gasunie signed the MoU with Germany’s state lender KfW.
This came as a part of Germany’s plans to stop relying on Russian energy imports, including natural gas responding to the Russian attack against Ukraine.
The cost of the project was not announced, but according to previous estimates, building an LNG terminal in Brunsbuettel off the ground will cost EUR 450 million.
