GE to Operate Iraqi 3 GW Power Plant

GE has signed a multiyear $520m agreement in Iraq with Mass Energy Group Holding. The contract includes operation and maintenance services, as well as GE’s advanced digital industrial solutions for the 3.0 GW gas-fired Basmaya power plant, Diesel & Gas Turbine Worldwide reported.

GE already has an agreement with Mass Energy to provide Basmaya with eight units of its advanced gas turbines and four units of its steam turbines. The Basmaya plant is 40km east of Baghdad and is being developed in two phases, with each delivering 1500 MW, according to Power Engineering International.

GE operates more than 130 turbines in Iraq, apart from ongoing agreements to support power generation plants across the country. GE has supplied the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity with 56 more gas turbines for various projects, which generate about 7600 MW to support the expansion of the country’s energy infrastructure and help drive future economic growth.
