GE Completes Upgrading Nubaria Power Plant

GE Power has announced that it has completed upgrading two GE 9FA gas turbines at the Middle Delta Electricity Production Company’s (MDEPC) Nubaria power plant, located in Beheira, Egypt. The completion of this project marks GE’s first upgrade of a 9FA turbine in the Middle East and Africa, and it is overall third one on a global scale, reported Zawya.

The upgrade includes the installation of GE’s latest combustion solutions for the 9FA gas turbine including Advanced Gas Path (AGP), Advanced Extendors Combustion, and Dry Low NOx (DLN) 2.6+. The upgrade improved the power plant’s output by 6.7% and decreased its fuel consumption by 3%.

Diesel and Gas Turbine Worldwide wrote that the upgrades are also expected to improve the GE 9FA’s availability by 3.7%, allowing the unit to operate for four years consecutively without any shutdowns. Additionally, the life cycle of the newly installed parts has doubled from six to twelve years.

The Connecticut-based company has been partnering up with Egypt for more than 40 years; more than 140 GE gas and steam turbines have been successfully installed in the country to date generating more than 15.5 GW of power.

The source cited the GE Power Services Managing Director for East Med, Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, Amir Hafzalla, saying: “We are keen to continue working together to further support the government’s goals for the energy sector by implementing unique and innovative solutions to help meet Egypt’s growing electricity needs.”
