Gazprom Supplies China with 2.3 bcm in 8 Months

Russia’s state-owned gas company, Gazprom, supplied 2.3 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline in January-August period of 2020, according to Russian news agency TASS.

Director-General of Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk Vladislav Borodin said, “Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk transported over 15 bcm of gas in eight months of this year, including 2.3 bcm – to the People’s Republic of China.”

Furthermore, Borodin is hopeful for a sizable increase of Russian gas exports to China, citing the expected annual volume of gas supplies to increase from 21 bcm in 2019 to 24-25 bcm by the end of 2020.

The Power of Siberia’s commissioning has increased the pipeline by 2,200 kilometers to over 11,500 kilometers.

Russian gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia started in December 2019.
