ETHYDCO and EPROM Join Forces at NIOF Conference to Promote Green Future Initiatives

The Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) and the Egyptian Projects Operation and Maintenance (EPROM) participated in the conference of National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF) in Alexandria.

The conference discussed unifying efforts towards a green future, and it took place over two days, Tuesday 5-6 November 2024.

ETHYDCO and EPROM participation came in light of the strategy of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) in the field of sustainable development.

ETHYDCO’s participation came within the framework of the pioneering and distinguished role it has been playing since the first day of its establishment in confronting pollution challenges, enhancing environmental efforts, and providing practical solutions that contribute to building a more sustainable future.

Hesham Riyad, Chairman and Managing Director of ETHYDCO, delivered the keynote speech at the opening session, emphasizing that the conference topic has economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Riyad highlighted that the plastics industry acts as a carbon-retaining sector, with ethane gas being converted into high-value-added polyethylene products. He further noted that a key issue lies in the improper management of plastic materials once they become waste.

Therefore, ETHYDCO has adopted a circular economy policy through recycling, and this approach is the most realistic way to address this problem over the coming years.

ETHYDCO has developed a comprehensive waste management system in more than one direction to produce a final product of recycled polyethylene produced from waste and convert it into a raw material for new products, Riyad explained. This product, which has been exported to Spain, is widely accepted and its selling prices are no less than the prices of the raw product.
