EPI SonarTusk and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) have signed a two-year contract launching first onshore seismic exploration of the Voltaian Basin, south-central Ghana, in 40 years, Oil Review Africa reported.

The deal is intended to acquire a regional 2D seismic program, however, hydrocarbon exploration is challenging in this area due to basin’s age. The exploration is to be followed by a tender process.

According to Edward Bowen, EPI CEO, cited by PennEnergy, “The goal of the project is to produce a geological model of the basin in terms of stratigraphy, structure and petroleum geology.
