The Egypt Oil & Gas (EOG) Technical Committee held a virtual meeting on May 6 to discuss how to lead a business through a pandemic and commodity price crash.
The meeting was also designed to provide updates on recently completed projects, projects that are moving forward, and projects that need committee support. Members brainstormed some ideas on how to keep the Technical Committee relevant during the current double crises, emphasizing the need to have an online channel to keep all members updated with the latest projects.
The committee acknowledged the efforts of its subcommittees, especially that of the health, safety, and environment (HSE) and the corporate social responsibility (CSR) subcommittees.
The HSE subcommittee has been pursuing a number of initiatives with joint ventures (JVs) and international oil companies (IOCs). Its first initiative was a timely COVID-19 response plan and its second was a unified Ramadan HSE campaign. It was announced that the subcommittee is currently working on implementing a digital platform, in addition to a unified monthly campaign with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).
Nihad Shelbeya, CSR Subcommittee Chairwoman, filled in the committee about the launch of a campaign with the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Misr El Kheir, with each of its activities having a task force on its own.
The EOG Technical Committee discussed future plans and conventions, taking into consideration the way forward amid the crisis. Members contemplated the possibility of having a virtual upstream convention and online roundtables, lest the pandemic stays longer than anticipated.
