Eni will drill two new exploratory wells in Cyprus’ territorial waters, the company’s CEO, Claudio Descalzi, said, AP reports.

Cyprus can serve as a “natural bridge” between the natural gas fields of the eastern Mediterranean and Europe, Descalzi said.

He further indicated that if natural gas is discovered, it could be processed through Egyptian liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants.

The waters around Cyprus are still, to a large extent, unexplored, he noted.
