Italian oil major Eni is ready to spend hundreds of millions of euros in developing solar power projects in Africa, the group’s CEO, Claudio Descalzi told in a parliamentary hearing in Milan, Reuters reported.
Descalzi explained that the group was working on two solar projects in mature fields close to depletion. He added that Eni is also working on greenfield off-grid solutions in areas that are not easy to access, with the idea to create small hubs that could be interconnected.
Eni, which is controlled by the state, is the biggest foreign oil and gas producer in Africa.
