ENI and Oil, Electricity Ministers Discuss Solar Power at Balaeim

Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity, and Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with a delegation from Italian company ENI, including Engineer Adriano Mongini, ENI’s Chairman, and Luca Cosentino, ENI’s CEO, to discuss ENI’s offer to establish a power plant that would use solar energy to generate electricity at the oil-producing field, Balaeim, according to a press release received by Egypt Oil&Gas.

The power plant is set to provide about 180 GWh annually, of which about 90 GWh per year would be used to provide energy needs for operations on the Balaeim field; remaining energy would then be used to meet energy needs of other petroleum sector sites.

The Ministries of Petroleum and Electricity and ENI have agreed to form a joint committee to study all details related to the project.
