Electricity Sector to Receive EGP 111.9 B Investments

The Ministry of Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform announced that the total investments targeted for the electricity sector during the year 2019/2020 is about EGP 111.9 billion, which is 9.6% of the country’s total investments, according to Al-Ahram.

The most important projects targeted in the sector during 2019/2020 are the national project to replace the overhead lines with ground cables, in addition to a set of other strategic projects, including the completion of the electricity grid with Sudan.

The national electricity grid will be constantly updated, in addition to the implementation of hydroelectric power plants projects and the development and use of new renewable energy resources.

The ministry aims to increase the sector’s production at the current prices to roughly EGP 171.4 billion against about EGP 146.4 billion during 2018/2019, with a growth rate of 17%.

Production at a constant price will be increased to about EGP 110 billion during the year 19/2020 compared to EGP 105.3 billion in the previous year, with a growth rate of 4.5%.

The ministry explained that the sector’s output level is targeted to increase from EGP 86.9 billion in 18/2019 to EGP 101.8 billion in 19/2020 at current prices, with a 17.1% growth rate.

The sector’s output level at a constant price will increase from EGP 62.6 billion to EGP 65.5 billion in the same period, with an average growth rate of 4.7%.
