The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla declared that the petroleum sector succeeded in achieving a leap in natural gas utilization during the past eight years.

He added that this came through connecting natural gas to more than 7 million housing units which is more than half the housing units that received natural gas in 42 years noting that 1.2 million housing units are being connected to the natural gas grid every year and the total connected households reached 13.4 million across Egypt.

El Molla referred to the rapid and extensive expansion of the natural gas supply stations which came as part of a presidential initiative. He said that they have doubled four times over a year and a half, exceeding 850 stations serving more than 450,000 vehicles run on natural gas. This is besides other 150 stations that will come on stream.

The minister elaborated that the political leadership’s support and continuous follow-up on the natural gas expansion project led to an increase in the number of users which reached 60 million.
