The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, confirmed that the ministry is targeting to convert about 50,000 cars to run on natural gas during fiscal year (FY) 2020/2021 and is currently studying to increase that number in light of the presidential initiative to expand the use of natural gas as fuel for cars, according to a press release.
He added, on the sidelines of his visit to Gastec’s Fuel Conversion Center, that the plan includes the establishment of 50 new gas stations every year to cope up with the expected growth of natural gas utilization as fuel during the upcoming period.
El Molla elaborated that it is planned to spread awareness through campaigns to encourage people to convert their cars, pointing to the coordination between the ministry, the Central bank, and the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSME) to provide funds and needed financial facilities for car owners.
