Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi held a meeting with the Algerian Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies Mohamed Arkab.
The meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation relations between Egypt and Algeria, and discussed opportunities for cooperation and investment in the fields of energy and renewable energy.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Council of Ministers of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), which was held on December 15th in Kuwait.
The meeting reviewed exchange of expertise, as well as training and capacity building between the two sides in light of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two ministries in October 2022 for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of gas, oil and mines.
Badawi praised the long-standing and fruitful relations between the two countries, especially in the energy sector, and expressed his aspiration to build on the successes achieved in cooperation between the two countries and invest in the coming period in implementing more projects of common interest in order to achieve the common interests of the two countries and maximize the benefit from the resources and advanced infrastructure possessed by the two brotherly countries.
For his part, Arkab referred to the successful and fruitful cooperation between Egyptian and Algerian companies, including Petrojet and Sonatrach.
Arkab also welcomed the enhancement of cooperation with the Egyptian side, noting the importance of Egyptian companies exploiting the opportunities available in the Algerian energy sector, especially in the fields of research and exploration, field development, refining, and petrochemicals, in addition to marketing natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and producing and generating hydrogen.
Additionally, Arkab called on Egyptian companies to benefit from the advantages offered by the new hydrocarbons law in Algeria.
The meeting further tackled the possibility of cooperation in the mining sector, especially in the phosphate processing industries and the production of phosphate fertilizers, in addition to the exchange of expertise and information between the two countries in this vital sector.
