Egypt to Negotiate Smart Meter Bids

The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Resources completed reviewing bids from seven companies that submitted tenders to supply 250,000 smart electricity meters, reported Daily News Egypt.

Husseiny El Far, a member of the electricity companies’ distribution affairs, stated that the ministry had initially examined financial bids from nine organizations from ZTE, Huawei, Ericsson, Alcan, El Sewedy Electric, EIU INC, Gamma, and Siemens, and later excluded two bid.

 The ministry is currently in negotiates with the remaining seven companies.

The ministry will announce the results of the tender before the end of December. Accordingly,  the ministry will assign the supply of 250,000 electricity meters to each of the selected firms. Additionally, a second tender is also being discussed with six of the nine companies.

El Far added that the electricity meters tender aims to execute a project for the installation of 250,000 smart meters across six distribution companies. This includes 50,000 smart meters to be installed in the North Cairo Electricity Distribution Company and the South Cairo Electricity Distribution Company. The tender will further supply 25,000 meters to the Middle Egypt Electricity Distribution, South Delta Distribution Company, and Alexandria Electricity Distribution Company.
