The Ministry of Electricity aims to install approximately 2.3 million prepaid meters across Egypt by the end of December, a ministry source told Amwal Al-Ghad.
According to the source, the total prepaid meters installed during the period from January to the end of July reached nearly 1.450 million meters nationwide, up from 1.1 million meters installed in H1 2019.
The total amount that Egypt aims to install is 27 million meters, where Mohamed Shaker, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, met with smart meters’ manufacturers a day before to discuss the transformation of all electricity meters into prepaid ones.
More than 700,000 prepaid meters have been installed during the first four months of the year, bringing the total number of prepaid meters to 7.6 million, and then another 400,000 locally-manufactured meters were installed between April and the end of June.
