Egypt will stop importing petroleum products, especially benzene and diesel, within two years, said Khaled Othman, Ministry of Petroleum Representative, according to Al Mal News.
Halting the imports will be achievable as Egypt is conducted several expansion projects in refineries, including Middle East Oil Refinery (Midor) and Egyptian Refining Company (ERC), Othman noted.
Othman comments came replying on a number of inquiries at the parliamentary Energy & Environment Committee.
Egypt imports fuel through the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and its subsidiaries, Othman stated, adding that no private sector companies import petroleum products.
