Egypt pumps about 19,000 tons of gasoline per day (t/d), an anonymous source told Al-Mal, stressing that the country has a sufficient stock of gasoline and petroleum products to meet any additional needs of the local market.
The source indicated an increase in consumption of gasoline compared to the lockdown period which saw a significant decline in gasoline domestic consumption. He added that petroleum products saw an increase in production since the commencement of new refineries such as Mostorod. Gasoline and diesel imports have significantly decreased in 2020 recording 3.5 million tons (mmt) compared to 10 mmt in 2016 at a value of EGP 24 billion and EGP 72 billion, respectively.
It should be noted that Egypt aims to reach self-sufficiency of petroleum products by 2023.
