Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi held a meeting with Terje Pilskog CEO of Norway’s Scatec, to review Egypt’s plans for hydrogen development and green energy projects that are expected to be executed with the company.
The meeting was attended by Mohamed Amer, EVP Scatec Egypt, and it highlighted the green ammonia production project in Port Said and the green methanol production as a clean fuel for bunkering. The meeting was held on the sidelines of Badawi’s participation in the Hamburg Sustainability Conference in Germany.
During the meeting, Badawi pointed out the Egyptian government’s intention to remove all obstacles facing the field of hydrogen development. This comes as the government aims to achieve maximum benefit from the available capabilities to transform Egypt into a regional and global hydrogen hub.
The two parties highlighted the importance of cooperation in the field of green hydrogen and safe energy transition to ensure sustainability and the availability of the necessary energy sources, in line with Egypt’s plan to gradually shift towards the use of green and renewable energy sources.
